With the arrival of spring, Central Oregon becomes a prime destination to bask in the higher temperatures. The blossoming flowers and lush leaves on trees are a sight to behold, while warm days and extended daylight hours make for perfect outdoor adventures.
Central Oregon boasts a plethora of activities to partake in during the spring season. Whether it’s mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, or any other outdoor pursuit, the options are endless. So, get your gear ready and select your preferred adventure with BeGOAT as your trusted companion.
Climb at Smith Rock
Located in the high desert of Central Oregon, Smith Rock State Park is known for its rock climbing and stunning basalt cliffs. It is one of the top destinations for sport climbing in the United States with over 1,500 routes throughout the park. The approach for each staging area is relatively simple making this climbing area even more enticing. Once the sun hits the rock walls mid-afternoon, they are packed with fellow climbers pushing the level with difficult routes.
Even if you don’t participate in the sport, it is exciting to watch others pushing their comfort zones. If you time your trip right, maybe you’ll catch some slackline athletes taking a risk of their own!
A day of climbing at Smith Rock is perfectly paired with BeGOAT’s Cascara Berry or Hibiscus Lime.
Kayak the Deschutes River
The Deschutes River runs 252 miles from Little Lava Lake to the Columbia River Gorge. It is known as Central Oregon’s lifeblood and it is a major contributor to the Columbia River. Each section of the river provides a livelihood for recreationists whether it be fishing, surfing, leisure floating, paddleboarding, or whitewater kayaking.
There is a 10.5-mile long stretch from Harpham Flats to Sandy Beach that offers class 3 whitewater kayaking. The consistent flow and fun rapids make for a thrilling day in the heat of summer.
You can perfectly pair BeGOAT’s Blackberry Currant or Strawberry Lemon Ginger with the adrenaline-rushing rapids.
Hike near Tumalo Falls
Tumalo Falls is one of Central Oregon’s most iconic waterfall hikes. The largest waterfall reaches 97 feet and just upstream of that, several smaller waterfalls flow down the beautiful cascading rocks. This is a popular day-use area ideal for an afternoon hike, picnic, bike ride, or nature viewing.
There are many forest service roads and trail systems throughout the area, allowing you to hike several miles back into the valley to complete a loop hike, or you can keep it short and sweet by visiting the most stunning waterfall a few hundred feet from the parking lot.
Perfectly pair your Tumalo Falls day hike with BeGOAT’s Grapefruit Tangerine or Watermelon Dragonfruit.
Backcountry Ski to Broken Top
Central Oregon is home to a gorgeous set of volcanoes spanning across the Cascade Arc. The set of mountains in our backyard is comprised of 5 volcanoes known as the Three Sisters region. One of the five is known as Broken Top which reaches an elevation of 9,175 feet. This is the oldest and most eroded in the region.
Backcountry skiing Broken Top in the spring is a popular day trip with the right group of friends and preferably snowmobile access. When the sun is shining and the snow is in corn conditions, this trip provides 5-star skiing. This is considered a full-day expedition, so pack lots of food and your go-to BeGOAT.
BeGOAT’s Hibiscus Lime or Cascara Berry has never tasted better than from the summit of Broken Top.
Mountain Bike around Phil’s Trail
The amount of mountain biking trails throughout Central Oregon is astonishing! Phil’s Trail Complex is just one of many staging areas to enjoy a morning bike ride. Phil’s is most known for its hundreds of miles of classic cross-country style mountain biking, although it still offers trails in each difficulty category. From beginning to advanced options, there truly is a trail made for everyone in this trail network.
After your morning ride, you can drive just a few miles up the road to Bend’s Northwest Crossing for a yummy and well-deserved breakfast sandwich.
You can perfectly pair your bike ride with BeGOAT’s Blackberry Currant or Grapefruit Tangerine.
